Happy 80th Birthday

I took a day off to celebrate my father's 80th birthday, so, as you've doubtless noticed, there's not a full-length TOT waiting for you here. Dad's birthday is really Wednesday, but the weekend gatherings have become something of an Isabella family tradition. None of us knows how to relax during the week.

My dad is your basic good guy. He's worked hard all his life to take care of his family, even foregoing college because he was needed in the family business. He and my mother have raised five kids - all of us of reasonable credit to the human race - and tried to instill good values in us. Outside of lighting too many candles at the local Catholic church, Dad and Mom have come to terms with my values being somewhat different from theirs. However, given the high cost of heating bills and the ever-shrinking congregation at their local church, I'm not sure I believe they light those candles for me. I think they're just trying to keep the church warm during its Sunday services.

Summing up, I love and respect my father...and you don't get a full-length column today. Just a photo of a yummy birthday cake and the reminder that this is your last day to vote on the current TONY POLLS questions at:

www.worldfamouscomics.com/tony/poll

You're being asked to vote on nominees in several categories of the Saturn Awards, given out by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films. These are the organization's big awards: best science fiction film, fantasy film, horror film, adventure or thriller film, as well as best actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, and performance by a younger actor. The polls will close sometime after midnight and new questions will be posted shortly thereafter.

Thanks for spending a part of your day with me. I'll be back soon with more stuff.

THE "TONY" SCALE

Zero Tonys
ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.

Tony
ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.

TonyTony
TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?

TonyTonyTony
THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.

TonyTonyTonyTony
FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?

TonyTonyTonyTonyTony
FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
