TONY'S ONLINE TIPS
for Monday, September 11, 2006
Five years ago, the United States and the world were stunned by a vicious attack on innocent people. Over three thousand died that day and there isn't a Hell hellish enough for the monsters who murdered those people. It is fitting that we remember our dead on this fifth anniversary of that terrible day.
It also fitting that we do not allow the leaders who failed us on that day, and who have continued to fail us every day since that day, to ceaselessly use "9/11" as the answer to every question and the rationale for every action. Allowing them to do so dishonors every innocent soul who died that day.
Five years later, we live in a world less safe than it was on that day. We have seen tens of thousands of innocent people die in a war falsely "sold" to us as a war on the terror that visited the United States that day. We have seen our rights eroded in the name of democracy. We have seen bigotry recast as a "family value" for political gain. We have seen the median incomes of families drop in nearly every state as the wealthy and the powerful have become more wealthy and powerful. We have seen our education, energy, and health care costs rise out of control. We have seen our government unable to respond to national emergencies. We have seen government corruption at the highest levels of power.
We cannot accept "9/11" as the answer to our questions, as an excuse for government failure, as a rationale to keep the current administration and its allies in power. If we do, we dishonor the innocents who died on that day.
We have failed them for five years.
We must not fail them any longer.

THE "TONY" SCALE
ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.
ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.
TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?
THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.
FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?
FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
