TONY'S ONLINE TIPS
for Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Every Tuesday, I post new Tony Polls questions for your balloting entertainment. When the voting is completed, I bring you the official results and a bit of commentary. Here are the results of the questions posted last week.

Green Arrow and Red Arrow

Who is your favorite of the current members of the Justice League of America?

Red Arrow.....26.74%
Batman.....12.21%
Black Canary.....11.63%
Superman.....10.47%
Black Lightning.....6.98%
Hal Jordan.....6.98%
Flash.....5.23%
Hawkgirl.....4.07%
John Stewart.....3.49%
Vixen.....3.49%
Wonder Woman.....3.49%
Firestorm.....2.91%
Red Tornado.....2.33%

Do I have to tell you I voted for Black Lightning? I didn't think so.

I was stunned by Red Arrow's commanding win. Was there a Red Arrow Fan Club stuffing the ballot box? I don't actively dislike Red Arrow, but it seems to me his defining character trait is that, like his adoptive father Green Arrow, he's your typical man-slut. I'm not seeing the appeal there.

Vixen

Who is your LEAST favorite of the current Justice League members?

Vixen.....19.14%
Firestorm.....14.81%
Red Tornado.....11.73%
Red Arrow.....11.11%
Hawkgirl.....10.49%
Hal Jordan.....8.02%
John Stewart.....6.79%
Batman.....6.17%
Black Lightning.....3.09%
Flash.....3.09%
Superman.....2.47%
Wonder Woman.....1.85%
Black Canary.....1.23%

I voted for Vixen, but it was a toss-up between her and the Red Tornado. Vixen got my vote because I think she endangers her fellow members by not being forthcoming with the change in her powers. As for the Red Tornado, I like the character well enough, but every story that focuses on him is pretty much the same. It's time to figure out a new story for him.

Martian Manhunter

Who would you most like to see rejoin the Justice League of America?

Martian Manhunter.....47.56%
Atom (Ray Palmer).....21.34%
Aquaman (Arthur Curry).....14.02%
Green Arrow.....11.59%
Hawkman (Carter Hall).....5.49%

For those who asked, I deliberately limited the choices to the members who had joined during writer Gardner Fox's run on the JLA. I voted for the Martian Manhunter on the basis that, if Dan DiDio wants to kill him off, he must be a terrific character. You can almost always count on DiDio to make the wrong call.

However, I also think that none of the other characters would add anything to the existing roster. Atom and Aquaman are limited in their usefulness to a team unless small stuff or water plays a big role in a mission. Green Arrow is, as noted above, a man-slut and also a creep. Hawkman is a better fit for the Justice Society of America.

Justice Society 1

Which of these is your favorite current DCU team?

Justice Society of America.....32.92%
Justice League of America.....19.25%
Birds of Prey.....13.66%
Teen Titans.....8.70%
Legion of Super-Heroes.....7.45%
Green Lantern Corps.....5.59%
Batman and the Outsiders.....4.35%
Shadowpact.....3.11%
Suicide Squad.....3.11%
Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters.....1.24%
Infinity Inc.....0.62%

It was a tough call, but I went with the Justice Society of America because it feels more like a family to me that does the Justice League, which was my second choice.

I should apologize for omitting Checkmate and the Metal Men from the list of choices. Sure, Checkmate is a so-so book at best and the current Metal Men mini-series blows chunks, but both should have been offered as choices.

That brings us to this week's poll questions:

Forget "Super Tuesday" and the lame Republicans and Democrats! This week's "Tony Polls" cover the important races!

Which Marvel Party candidate would be your choice to run for President of the United States?

Which DC Comics Party candidate would be your choice to run for President of the United States?

Which Comic Strip Party candidate would be your choice to run for President of the United States?

Which All Others Party candidate would be your choice to run for President of the United States?

You can cast your votes at:

www.worldfamouscomics.com/tony/poll

The polls will remain open until sometime after midnight on Tuesday, February 12.

Then, two weeks later, the top 3-5 candidates in each race will vie for their party's nomination.

Then, two weeks after that, the candidates from each party will run against each other for the highest office in the silly, strange land that is the "Tony Polls."

All candidates have been judged eligible to serve should they win. So don't bug me about their ages or criminal status.

There are also rumors a Comics Creators Party might be forming. If you have recommendation for that party's nominee, send them to me at:

The state of our comicdom is strong!

God bless America!

Thanks for spending a part of your day with me. I'll be back soon with more stuff.

THE "TONY" SCALE

Zero Tonys
ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.

Tony
ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.

TonyTony
TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?

TonyTonyTony
THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.

TonyTonyTonyTony
FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?

TonyTonyTonyTonyTony
FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
