TONY'S ONLINE TIPS
for Monday, September 8, 2008
TOT will not return until December. It's taking much longer to complete my book on comics than I and my publishers thought it would. It's going to be a great book, but getting it to you will take all my focus for the next month.
As I have been working on my book, I came to realize a number of things. I'll share them with you.
It would be a lot easier to write if my books and comics were organized. Once the book is finished, that's going to be a priority for me.
It's not fair to Sainted Wife Barbara to have so many boxes of comic books around the house and especially in rooms that should be box-free. My goal is to clear them out of those rooms well before Thanksgiving.
I want to get back to writing fiction, both comics and prose. I have literally dozens of projects I want to do. It's time I got back into the writing game, especially given how lousy so much of today's comics writing is.
You know who I'm talking about.
Kiss the Tony Polls goodbye. They're just too much work for the few voters who participate in them.
Politics. If you're voting for Obama, I'm thrilled. If you're not, I think you must be clueless, crazy, or functionally evil. By tabling TOT until December, I can avoid finding new and more clever ways to tell you this. Besides, politics make me angry and that, in turn, makes my blood pressure rise. I won't watch live TV until the elections are over. That way I can fast forward past the political ads and pundits.
Once I finish up old TOT business in December, I'll reassess what I'm doing with the column and if I should continue it. I want to have an online presence, but maybe TOT has outlived its time as that presence.
Do not be concerned about my health. If it gets bad, I'll let you know. I'm doing okay for an old fart.
If you are concerned about my health, don't look at the hiatus and think it means I'm available to write something for you for free. That will make me want to hurt you...
...and I will.
Almost as soon as I finish writing my book, I'll be on my way to Mid-Ohio-Con...
www.midohiocon.com
...and then the Screaming Tiki convention...
www.screamingtikicon.com
I hope to meet many of my readers at these events.
During the hiatus, I'll try to post more often to my message board, which can be found here:
www.comicscommunity.com/boards/tony
There are lots of cool regular features there, such as my pals Bob Ingersoll's "Movie Quiz" and William Ashley Vaughn's insightful commentary on Turner Classic Movies offerings. In the meantime, board posters should feel free to contribute to any of the features I usually provide:
Best Person of the Day
Comics in the Comics
Online Video of the Day
Question of the Day
Website of the Day
What I'm Reading
What I'm Watching
Worst Person of the Day
Once the book is completed and announced, I hope to launch a second message board devoted to the book. Keep watching this space and other spaces for more information.
Thanks for spending a part of your day with me.
See you in December.
Tony Isabella

THE "TONY" SCALE
ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.
ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.
TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?
THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.
FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?
FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
