TONY'S ONLINE TIPS
for Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Several TOT readers have asked for the return of our Tony Polls, a return which depends entirely on voter turnout for the questions currently posted there. While we're waiting on that, we have some old business: the results of Tony Polls questions posted before last year's hiatus...

Did you attend a comic-book convention this summer?

No.....72.73%
Yes.....27.27%

The only convention I attended in 2008 was Mid-Ohio-Con in October.

Did you travel by air this summer?

No.....73.56%
Yes.....26.44%

I used to love flying, but it's been years since I've traveled by air. Indeed, Indeed, unless it becomes absolutely necessary for me to travel by air, I plan to continue avoiding it. Airlines treat customers like crap in ways too numerous to recount while the fear-mongering Bush administration heaped indignities on travelers in the name of sham security.

Did you travel to a foreign country this summer?

No.....85.54%
Yes.....14.46%

Just Cincinnati.

Did you attend a Major League baseball game this summer?

No.....85.54%
Yes.....14.46%

Oddly enough, the only Major League baseball game I attended last year was in Cincinnati. My son Eddie and I drove down there to have dinner with his roommate Alex, see a ball game, and visit the Underground Railroad Museum.

Did you visit a museum this summer?

No.....54.88%
Yes.....45.12%

As mentioned above, I went to the Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati. It was an informative and intense experience and I recommend it highly.

Did you go to a performance by a stand-up comedian this summer?

No.....91.14%
Yes.....8.86%

On the return leg of our trip to Cincinnati, Eddie and I went to a Lewis Black show in Columbus. It was a great show and, if you get the chance to see Black live, seize it!

Did you go to a state or county fair this summer?

No.....83.54%
Yes.....16.46%

Normally, I visit the Medina County Fair once or twice during the week it's held...mostly just to chat up the fascinating vendors and to chow down on interesting foods. However, for reasons I don't recall, I didn't make it there in 2008.

Did you go to a performance by a band or singer this summer?

No.....69.62%
Yes.....30.38%

That's not music. That's just noise!

Outside of school performances, it's been ages since I've gone to any live musical performance. Chalk it up to my dislike of big crowds and my sometimes iffy hearing.

What becomes glaringly obvious from both your and my responses to these questions is that we all need to get out more.

I'll have more Tony Polls results for you tomorrow. In the meantime, if you want to cast your votes on the current polls and make it that much more likely that we'll continue you to bring this feature to you, go to:

Thanks for spending a part of your day with me. I'll be back tomorrow with more stuff.

THE "TONY" SCALE

Zero Tonys
ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.

Tony
ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.

TonyTony
TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?

TonyTonyTony
THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.

TonyTonyTonyTony
FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?

TonyTonyTonyTonyTony
FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
