TONY'S ONLINE TIPS
for Friday, May 29, 2009
The third and final round of our "They're Not Dead Yet!" Comics Idol competition is currently underway in this week's Tony Polls. We started out with twenty comics writers from the 1970s and asked you to vote on which writers you would like to see return to their signature features on a regular basis. From that list of twenty writers, your votes narrowed it down to the ten writers of the second round.
Here are the results of that second round:
Steve Englehart (Batman).....14.95%
Marv Wolfman (Tomb of Dracula).....12.77%
Doug Moench (Master of Kung Fu).....12.60%
Len Wein (Swamp Thing).....12.10%
Paul Levitz (Legion of Super-Heroes).....11.93%
Denny O'Neil (Batman).....11.42%
Roy Thomas (Avengers).....9.57%
Jim Shooter (Avengers).....5.71%
Elliot S! Maggin (Superman).....5.37%
Steve Skeates (Aquaman).....3.52%
Who did I vote for? Nope. I'm still not telling since almost every one of these gents is a friend, a writer I admire, or both. But I will tell you that, besides voting on the final round of this competition, you also get to vote on two "Tony-centric" questions. They are:
Outside of Black Lightning, which of these features would you most like to see me write again on a regular basis?
And:
From this list of 20 features I've never written, which would you most like to see me write on a regular basis?
You can vote on all three questions here:

Today's TOT is a mite on the short side on account of your unfrozen caveman columnist is struggling to master a new computer. I'm not saying my previous computer was obsolete or anything, but it was still running Windows Bedrock!
Thanks for spending a part of your day with me. Have a happy and safe weekend.
I'll be back on Monday with more stuff.

THE "TONY" SCALE
ZERO: Burn your money before buying any comic receiving this rating. It doesn't *necessarily* mean there's absolutely nothing of value here - though it *could* - but whatever value it might possess shrinks into insignificance before its overall awfulness.
ONE: Buy something else. Maybe I found something which wasn't completely dreadful in the item, but not enough for me to recommend it when there are better comics available. I only want what's best for you, my children.
TWO: Basic judgment call. I found some value, but not enough to recommend it. My review should give you enough info to decide if you want to take a chance on it. Are you feeling lucky today, punk? Well, are you?
THREE: This denotes something I find perfectly respectable. There are better books out there, but I wouldn't regret buying this item. Based on my review, you should be able to determine if it's of interest to you. Let the Force guide you.
FOUR: I recommend anything earning this rating. Unless you don't like the genre, subject matter, or past work of the creators, I believe you'll enjoy this item. Isn't it uncanny how I can look right into your soul that way?
FIVE: Anything getting this rating is among the best comicdom has to offer. You should buy/read this, even if the genre/subject matter doesn't appeal to you. It's for your own good. Me, I live for comics and books this good...but not in a pathetic "Comic-Book Guy" sort of way.
